Ausangate Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Tinqui – Upis
Your adventure begins with an early departure from Cusco. After approximately 4 hours by road, you will arrive in Tinqui, where the trek starts. From here, hike through Andean valleys, passing small communities and grazing llamas and alpacas, until reaching the campsite in Upis.
Estimated hiking time: 3-4 hours
Day 2: Upis – Ausangatecocha
Continue deeper into the Ausangate region as the landscape becomes more dramatic and remote. This section offers spectacular views of glacial lakes and the surrounding snow-capped peaks as you head toward the Ausangatecocha campsite.
Day 3: Ausangatecocha – Qampa
This is one of the most demanding days of the trek. You will cross the Palomani Pass (5,200 m / 17,060 ft), the highest point of the route, surrounded by impressive mountain scenery. After reaching the pass, descend toward the Qampa community, where camp will be set up for the night.
Distance: Approximately 12 km / 7.5 miles
Estimated hiking time: 7-8 hours
Day 4: Qampa – Pacchanta
Hike through high-altitude valleys, wetlands, and glacial lake scenery on your way to Pacchanta. This small Andean village is known for its natural hot springs, where you can relax after a long day on the trail.
Distance: Approximately 11 km / 6.8 miles
Day 5: Pacchanta – Tinqui – Cusco
On the final trekking day, descend through scenic valleys with views of Ausangate in the distance. After arriving in Tinqui, board the transport back to Cusco.
Distance: Approximately 20 km / 12 miles
Day 6: Departure Day
This day is reserved as the final day of the program. Depending on the tour operation, it may be used for rest, departure logistics, or connection with your onward travel plans.
